The last ten nights of Ramadan are the most special and spiritually rewarding part of the month. It is during this time that we are encouraged to seek Allah’s (swt) mercy and forgiveness more than ever, especially since Laylatul Qadr—the Night of Decree—can fall on any of the last ten nights. This night is better than a thousand months, and although only Allah (swt) knows when it will occur, we are to treat each of these nights with extra devotion, as if it is Laylatul Qadr.
The Power of Duaa in the Last Ten Nights
While we don’t know which night will be Laylatul Qadr, one of the most beautiful and important duas to recite during the last ten nights is the one that the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) recommended for Laylatul Qadr. This duaa is a simple yet profound plea for Allah’s forgiveness:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّكَ عَفُوٌّ تُحِبُّ الْعَفْوَ فَاعْفُ عَنِّي
Allaahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibb al-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni
“Oh Allah, You are the Most forgiving, and You love to forgive, so forgive me.”
It is a powerful reminder of Allah's (swt) infinite mercy and His love for forgiving His servants. During the last ten nights, we should repeat this duaa, knowing that Allah (swt) loves to forgive and is always ready to show mercy to those who ask for it sincerely.
Teaching Our Children About the Blessings of the Last Ten Nights
For parents, the last ten nights of Ramadan are a great chance to teach our kids about the importance of seeking Allah's (swt) forgiveness and making duaa. Even though they’re young, it’s a wonderful time to help them appreciate the blessings of these nights and why asking for Allah’s (swt) mercy is so important. It's also the perfect opportunity to remind them that this is the best time to ask Allah (swt) for anything they want or need. Allah (swt) loves when we turn to Him with our requests, and making duaa is not just asking for help—it’s a form of worship too.
